Metallica defined the look and sound of 1980s heavy metal, it was always the Metallica who led the way, who pushed to another level, who became the last of the superstar rockers. It was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1981. Metallica members include Kirk – lead guitar; James Hetfield – vocals, rhythm guitar; Jason Newsted – bass guitar; Robert Trujillo – bass guitar and Lars Ulrich – drums. The band's debut album, Kill 'Em All, was released in 1983 on Elektra Records, a raw album with lots of aggression and excellent riffs, that received enthusiastic reviews from critics. Ride The Lightning followed one year later, reaching the #100 position on The Billboard Top 200 Albums chart. After more than 20 years, eleven albums, and six Grammy Awards, Metallica has more than proven its staying power as rock's preeminent metal group. It is our duty to keep their music for the future generation by playing, singing them. Stay with us, check this out: Chords for Beginners: Chubby Checker.

Am                           Em
New blood joins this earth,
         D                     Am
And quickly he's subdued.
Am                                      Em
Through constant pained disgrace
        D                              Am
The young boy learns their rules.
Am  Em  D  Am…
With time the child draws in.
This whipping boy done wrong.
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on.
Am                 C                 G
He's known a vow unto his own,
         C                    G
That never from this day
       C                     G      E
His will they'll take away.
Am             C                       G
What I've felt, What I've known
            Em                                          Am
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Am     C                G
Never be. Never see.
            E                                Am
Won't see what might have been.
Am             C                       G
What I've felt, What I've known
            Em                                           Am
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Am       C                G
Never free. Never me.
         E                       Am
So I dub thee unforgiven.
Am  Em  D  Am…
They dedicate their lives
To running all of his.
He tries to please them all –
This bitter man he is.
Am  Em  D  Am…
Throughout his life the same –
He's battled constantly.
This fight he cannot win –
A tired man they see no longer cares.
(Am)  C  G  C…
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully –
That old man here is me.
Am  C  G  Em
What I've felt, What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never be. Never see.
Won't see what might have been.
What I've felt, What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown.
Never free. Never me.
So I dub thee unforgiven.

C  G  Em  Am  (2x)

Am      C    G   Em                        Am
Lay beside me, under wicked sky
Am                       C                G           Em                 Am
Through black of day, dark of night, we share this paralyze
                          C     G                 Em                   Am
The door cracks open    but there's no sun shining through
                    C                         G                 Em                   Dm
Black heart scarring darker still,    but there's no sun shining through
                   F                     G
No, there's no sun shining through
                   F                     Am
No, there's no sun shining...
Am                     C
What I've felt, what I've known
G                        Em
Turn the pages, turn the stone
      Am                               C               Em    G
Behind the door, should I open it for you?
Am                     C
What I've felt, what I've known
G                         Em
Sick and tired, I stand alone
            Am                                           C                           Em
Could you be there? 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you
                    G                Am
Or are you unforgiven, too?
Am  C  G  Em…
Come lay beside me, this won't hurt, I swear
She loves me not, she loves me still, but she'll never love again
She lay beside me but she'll be there when I'm gone
Black heart scarring darker still, yes, she'll be there when I'm gone
Yes, she'll be there when I'm gone
Dead sure she'll be there...
Am  C  G  Em…
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you?
Am  C  G  Em…
What I've felt, what I've known
Sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there? 'Cause I'm the one who waits for you
Or are you unforgiven, too?
Am  C  G  Em…
Lay beside me, tell me what I've done
The door is closed, so are your eyes
But now I see the sun, now I see the sun
Yes, now I see it
Am  C  G  Em…
What I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you?
Am  C  G  Em…
What I've felt, what I've known
So sick and tired, I stand alone
Could you be there? 'Cause I'm the one who waits,
The one who waits for you....
Am  C  G  Em…
Oh, what I've felt, what I've known
Turn the pages, turn the stone
Behind the door, should I open it for you? (so I dub thee Unforgiven)

Oh, what I've felt... Oh, what I've known...
I take this key (never free...)
And I bury it (never me...) in you
Because you're unforgiven, too...
Never free... Never me...
'Cause you're unforgiven, too...Oh

Em                            D
Clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
C         B           Em
Out at you from their hiding place
Em                         D
Like acid and oil on a madman's face
C         B                Em
His reason tends to fly away
         C                    B
Like lesser birds on the four winds
    C                           G
Like silver scrapes in May
         C                         B
And now the sand's become a crust
C          B              Em
Most of you have gone away
Em  D  C  B…
Come Susie dear, let's take a walk
Just out there upon the beach
I know you'll soon be married
And you'll want to know where winds come from
Well it's never said at all
On the map that Carrie reads
Behind the clock back there you know
At the Four Winds Bar
E       C   D       E      C  D      E
Hey!      Hey!  Hey!     Hey!
E                                    C
Four winds at the Four Winds Bar
D                                   E
Two doors locked and windows barred
E                            C
One door left to take you in
D                            E
The other one just mirrors it
E       C   D       E      C  D      E
Hey!      Hey!  Hey!     Hey!
E  C  D  E…
Hellish glare and inference
The other one's a duplicate
The Queenly flux, eternal light
Or the light that never warms
Yes the light that never, never warms
Or the light that
C         D  C  D            D   C  D            D   C  D
Never, never warms… Never warms… Never warms
Em  D  C  B…
The clock strikes twelve and moondrops burst
Out at you from their hiding place
Miss Carrie nurse and Susie dear
Would find themselves at Four Winds Bar
Em  D  C  B…
It's the nexus of the crisis
And the origin of storms
Just the place to hopelessly
Encounter time and then came me
E  C  D  E…
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
Call me Desdinova, Eternal light
These gravely digs of mine
Will surely prove a sight
And don't forget my dog
Fixed and consequent
Astronomy...a star
